Take all the amenities with you rather than purchasing there.
Research "free fun". There are many things to do that cost nothing.

Eco-lodges and locally-owned accommodations are frequently cheaper than bigger hotels and resorts... and you know that the money you spend there stays in the community. Some great locally-owned B&Bs and hotels are listed at www.caribbean-experiences.com. Check it out!
Look for the grocery stores and buy food there instead of eating at the restaurants for every meal. Buy cheese, breads, yogurt, and fruit. This will save a lot of money.
