Over the past 2 months we have been conducting surveys among 24 communities as a part of a large nutrition program sponsored by USAID. Beginning this month we will provide a specially formulated product to all children ages 6-24 months each day. This product has been shown to significantly reduce illness and death from the number one killer in Guatemala, malnutrition.

I knew there was tremendous poverty but was astounded at what we found as we dug deep into these 24 communities. Over Christmas my younger sister's kids decided to give Casa de Sion the money they would have otherwise spent on each other. It was a small amount as they are just young children but with that we were able to purchase a large basket of nutritious food for 4 of the most distressed families we had encountered.

These were all families living in desperate conditions without means of support. They are all widowed or single moms with small kids. The bag of candy comes from a stash my daughter stole from her kids at Halloween to save them from themselves.

Sometimes you just have to give them "fish" if there is no one to teach how to fish. Thank you, Jarom, Jacob, Jase and Mia, for your generosity.

so glad that these families could start the new year with food in their kitchens.  Can't wait to help more.
