GREEN is the best description I can contrive for Kauai. Pictures are the best way to show you the beauty of the garden island but we didn't even skim the surface in our two day visit which did not include any waterfalls or snorkeling. The island is truly a place to put on your "places to visit during my life" list.
We stayed at the Kauai Sands Hotel that was right on the beach. It was an older hotel, not a five star, but very nice for $59. We discovered a campground up on the northern end of the island that costs $10 per night with bathroom, showers, and BBQ grills. Next time we visit, we will do the camping option.
Red sands, blue waters, and green mountains are exceptionally pleasing to the senses.
Beaches are accessible all the way around the island.
Colorful signs and creative glass art decorate the roads and shops.
Island towns are small and very quiet which calms the nerves while sightseeing on well marked roads with people driving slowly and sanely.
Colorfully painted shops brighten the small towns.
Waimea Canyon is breathtaking.
Deep red soil coats the inland contrasting green vegetation and blue skies and ocean with vibrant color.
Flowers and more flowers - what more can I say.
Kapa'a is a very nice town with fun shops and restaurants. But then, all of the towns were cute with fun shops and restaurants.
We actually came home this morning and miss the clean ocean air of Kauai. The smoggy air of the city burned bitterly along with the realization that I must go to work again on Wednesday. But we sure had fun traveling around the planet for the week!
