We spent the entire day at Chuiti Estancia, a very poor village about 15 minutes from Los Robles, Guatemala. Our objective today was to identify all the families with young children and assess needs that would align with our programs.

We are espcially looking for the under 2 crowd that will receive daily doses of NutriButter, a vitamin packed supplement designed to overcome some of the effects of malnutrition. Studies suggest that if babies 6 months to 2 years old receive adequate vitamins and nutrition, they will likely avoid the detrimental effects of growth stunting. Guatemala has the highest incidence of Growth Stunting in the Western Hemisphere.

We are also identifying families with kids under 6 who can join our Tuesday and Thursday program of a hot lunch with vitamins and the formula and encaperina distribution for next year.

Our survey for each family consists of 26 questions about the family and their economic and education situation.

It's interesting that so many of the moms do not even know the birth dates of their kids. They have to go inside to find the actual birth certificates to show us (since they can't read anyway).

But we interviewed 49 families today and came home tired but happy.
