Guatemala is famous for its many ancient Mayan temples throughout the country but few know that the tradition continues even today. A group of 10 of us from Casa de Sion got up very early and headed for Quetzaltenango to see the brand new temple that is having an open house for all visitors before it is dedicated early December.
It's about a 2 1/2 hour trip to Quetzaltenango from our foundation in Los Robles. The Mayan name is Xela, pronounced "shela". That is how all the locals refer to the city and temple. Quetzaltenango can be quite a mouthful.
We were able to enter the visitors center first to view a video about the work that occurs in the temple and then we were led into each room of this magnificent new House of the Lord. The craftsmanship is breathtaking and the art is inspiring. You truly feel transported to another world when you enter the temple. In spite of the long drive, long wait and long day, everyone had a marvelous time. As with all the temples, it is located on a hill overlooking the entire city and can be seen for miles in all directions. Everything about this beautiful building whispers "sacredness." It was a joyous day.
