It is so nice to be back in Guatemala this week. I arrived to sunny warm weather and although the cleanup continues from an unusually disastrous monsoon season, much progress has been made to clear the roads from the many mudslides during October. I arrived in Los Robles at Casa de Sion to find my volunteer group working hard on constructing a second level of gaviones to keep the runoff from taking our property with it. It is now school vacation so our programs have slowed considerably until January when they all return for daily meals and instruction.
The volunteers did a really good job of building these wire cages from scratch using chain link fencing and some wire to construct them. Then came the hard part of hoisting these very heavy rocks and placing them to keep the cages square. Lunch came none too soon and everyone was quite hungry.
Everyone gets involved in cleanup and we all went back to work. It was a great way to re-enter the Casa de Sion work her in Guatemala. At least we are never bored.
